In Corona powder coating guns, a high-voltage generator is employed to split up air molecules and produce a stream of either positive or negative ions, which subsequently impart an equivalent charge to the powder cloud. The interaction between the gun electrode, charged cloud potentials, and the opposite pole results in the formation of an electric field.
At the cannon, charged powder particles look for the opposing pole’s lower potential.
